Studio Policy 2020-2021
Schedule, Lessons and Lab:
Private Lessons are offered in 30 minute, 45 minute or 60 minute periods either online or in studio. Due to the ever-changing dynamics of COVID-19, I am temporarily suspending lab time in studio. Lab assignments will be given to complete at home as most theory games do not require a midi-keyboard. Only lesson students will be allowed in the studio for their lessons. Siblings, parents, and caregivers are asked to wait in their cars, run a quick errand, or take a walk during their child’s lesson. Lessons will be scheduled with a 15 minute gap between each non-related student for proper sanitation/cleansing of keys, doorknobs and touched surfaces. Students temperature will be taken upon arrival, they are required to wear a mask during their lesson and strict hand washing protocols will continue before each lesson.
If your students has any fever, cold, flu, cough, or runny nose symptoms please notify me and we’ll schedule online lessons for a couple weeks (or more) till the symptoms have disappeared completely. If anyone in your household has tested positive for COVID-19, please notify me and we will switch to online lessons till your quarantine period is over and everyone is symptom free.
I will teach your child the language of music. I teach music so each student can
learn to express themselves in ways that words and feelings can’t. My studio is a positive, enthusiastic
nurturing environment. I will work to create a learning environment that best fits your child’s specific
Student and Family’s Responsibilities:
Students agree to arrive at each lesson punctually, well-prepared, and with their assignment books and music. To make progress, daily quality practice is necessary. Students should fill in their practice time in Tonara (the practice app) for each week and parents should monitor practicing and see that assignments are completed.
Practicing Estimations: minimum expectations
Beginning level students begin with 20 - 30 minutes a day
Late Elementary level students, increase to 30 - 45 minutes a day
Intermediate level students, increase to 45 - 1 hour a day
Advanced level students, increase to 1 - 1 1/2 hours a day
If something is happening at home or school that is affecting your child please let me know. Sending a
quick text prior to arriving to the lesson will help me be sensitive to the needs of your child. A little
heads up can make the difference between a great lesson and a difficult one.
All students are encouraged to play at the two recitals each year: December and June.

Try to choose a lesson time in which you feel confident. Please understand that the tuition
you pay reserves an exclusive weekly time in my schedule for your child. Unlike a doctor or
a hairdresser, I cannot resell that time nor can I create extra teaching time in which to give
To help accommodate an occasional unavoidable change in student’s schedules, students can
check the studio calendar on the website () and pick a "swap" lesson slot available. All calendar swap slots are coordinated through me.
• All missed lessons are made up by swapping lessons.
Two recitals are given each year. The first recital will be in December and the Spring Recital will be in June. Times and dates will be determined later. Check the google
calendar often. Other optional opportunities to perform are the Duet Festival in November, Bach
Festival in February, Certificate of Merit in March, The Romantic Festival in April, and the
Sonata Festival in May.
40 Piece Practice Challenge:
This year our practice challenge will start August 31st and end June 11th. Each student is encouraged to learn 40 pieces to performance level throughout the year. A performance level piece is a piece you can play with expression, solid note and rhythm accuracy and from memory. Awards will be given based on how many pieces out of the 40 you memorize. Bronze = 15 memorized; Silver = 25 memorized; Gold = 40 memorized. Students will be expected to work through their method books at the same time they are working on their 40 pieces. For the challenge, I will adjust to create manageable assignments from the method books so students can achieve progress in both the challenge and weekly assignments. Students that have “project” pieces will also be assigned at level pieces to help them achieve their 40 pieces by the end of the year.
A 30 day notice is required if a student decides to discontinue lessons.
If a student committed to a full year of lessons (receiving the full tuition discount) decides to
terminate lessons mid quarter, no refunds will be given.
Receive $25 tuition credit for every referral that registers and joins the studio.
The best compliment I can get is a referral from a studio family.
I am looking forward to working with your children this year. I’m excited to be able to offer a
state of the art technology upgraded studio along with new ideas in teaching techniques and
motivation. My mission is to have a fun concrete curriculum to build confidence and excitement
in learning to play the piano. I want to create strong musicians that will continue to enjoy
